Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Best Settings

The quick answer

A competitive baseline starts with motion blur off, a readable field of view, a stable sensitivity, and a controller deadzone that does not drift. Treat exact numbers as starting points, then tune them to your display, input, and connection.

The quick answer

These are a competitive starting point, not a universal optimum. Sensitivity, deadzones, and graphics depend on your controller, mouse, display, and hardware. Change one group at a time and test it in the Firing Range or Proving Grounds.

Graphics and visibility

Setting Recommendation Why
Display mode Fullscreen Exclusive for one monitor; Fullscreen Borderless for multi-monitor Exclusive usually gives the cleanest latency; borderless makes switching easier.
Resolution Native 1920x1080 or 2560x1440 Keep the resolution your GPU can drive consistently.
Refresh rate Native refresh rate Do not cap below the panel unless you need thermal or stability control.
NVIDIA Reflex / AMD Anti-Lag On Reduce input latency when supported.
V-Sync Off for gameplay Avoid added latency; use a frame limiter instead if needed.
HDR Off for competitive visibility HDR calibration varies by display and can obscure contrast.
Upscaling DLSS or FidelityFX CAS; quality/balanced/performance by hardware Use the lowest setting that keeps targets readable.
Ray tracing Off The performance cost is not worth it for competitive play.
Motion blur and depth of field Off Clearer target tracking and less visual noise.
Texture resolution High if VRAM allows Do not sacrifice frame stability for texture detail.
Particle resolution Very Low or Low MW4 is particle-heavy; lower particles improve visibility.
Shadow quality Very Low or Low Fewer dark hiding spots and better frame rate.
Screen-space shadows / lighting / reflections Off Reduce visual clutter and GPU cost.
FOV 115-120, Enhanced FOV on Wider awareness; reduce if the distortion bothers you.
1st/3rd-person camera movement Minimal (25%) Less weapon and camera bob.

If you have a low-end GPU, lower texture resolution, shadows, particles, and reflections before dropping the render resolution to an unreadable level. If you have a high-end GPU, do not turn on ray tracing just because it looks better in a menu; test a normal multiplayer match.

Controller and aiming

Setting Recommendation
Button layout Default or Tactical by preference
Stick layout Default
Horizontal / vertical sensitivity 1.5-1.9; 1.75 is a reasonable middle
Simplified controls / low motor strain Off
Vibration / trigger effect Off
Left and right stick minimum deadzone 0-10; raise only until drift disappears
Stick maximum deadzone 90-99
ADS behavior Hold
ADS sensitivity transition Instant
Aim response curve Dynamic
ADS multipliers, low and 2x-7x scopes 0.80-0.90
ADS multipliers, 8x and higher 1.00
Target aim assist On
Sprint assist Tactical Sprint Assist
Slide / dive behavior Tap to Slide
Slide / dive activation delay Short
Slide maintains sprint On
Combat roll assist Medium
Interact / reload behavior Prioritize Reload
Depleted ammo weapon switch On

The most important controller changes are the ones that remove inconsistency: vibration and trigger effects off, a deadzone just large enough to stop drift, a predictable aim curve, and a sensitivity you can track with for a full match. A very high sensitivity is not automatically better.

What to test in the Firing Range

  1. Strafe left and right while tracking a target at 10, 30, and 50 meters.
  2. Test a close-range snap and a long-range tracking burst with the same loadout.
  3. Check that your optic height and reticle remain readable against bright and dark backgrounds.
  4. Play one match with the new settings before changing them again. Do not rebuild the setup after every death.
